Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center Continues to Hire at Steady Pace

Nine Join Staff with Many More to Come

Fredericksburg, VA, November 25, 2009 – Tim Tobin, CEO of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, today introduced the next group of leaders and managers to join his team.  Nine positions have been filled recently with more hiring underway.

“We are very pleased with the quality of leadership we have been able to attract to our new organization,” said Tobin.  “We are well on our way to opening an outstanding new hospital with a leadership team focused on the needs of our patients, physicians, employees and our community.  In early 2010, we expect to have over 40 employees and leaders hired; by June, we expect to have created over 400 new jobs in our community.”

The following individuals are the newest additions to the SRMC team:

Bill Groben, a 19-year HCA veteran, joins the team as Senior Leader of Pharmacy Services.  With 28 years of experience as a hospital-based practitioner, he worked most recently as Pharmacy Director for Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond.  “I am looking forward to opening the SRMC pharmacy as a modern hospital pharmacy utilizing cutting-edge technologies to improve patient safety,” stated Groben.  Mr. Groben lives in Richmond with his wife and three children.

Ruby Higgins, Critical Care Services Senior Leader, most recently joins the team from INOVA Outpatient Services in Franconia-Springfield, VA.  She is responsible for management and coordination of clinical services in the intensive care unit (ICU), post anesthesia care unit (PACU), and telemetry. Ms. Higgins grew up in Fairfax County and completed an extensive ICU internship program at George Washington University Hospital.  She currently resides in the area with her husband and two children.

Rich Hill has spent the past five years driving to Dominion Hospital and Reston Hospital Center in Northern Virginia to report for work.  As Supply Chain Services Senior Leader for SRMC, his commute now takes less than ten minutes.  Mr. Hill began his career with HCA in Richmond at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.  He lives in Fredericksburg with his wife and two children.

Cecil Jackson, Information Technology Services Senior Leader, has worked with HCA for the past three years as the Consulting Division Network Engineer.  There he was responsible for the overall design of the networks for 14 hospitals and 31 imaging centers. Prior to joining HCA, Mr. Jackson spent ten years working in Information Technology (IT) for internet and telecommunications companies as a Design and Implementation Engineer.  Mr. Jackson currently resides in Richmond and will be relocating to Spotsylvania.

Jeff Lasher, Senior Leader for Fiscal Services, comes to SRMC from Henrico Doctors’ Hospital where he had worked in a similar role. “Working with the SRMC Leadership Team has been great thus far; I have enjoyed working with this experienced team of leaders,” stated Mr. Lasher.  He lives in Richmond with his wife and two children.

Shakira Mitchell is the Medical Staff Services Leader for Spotsylvania Regional.  Prior to joining the SRMC team, she was a Credentialing Manager for Centene Corporation where she implemented the credentialing program for managed care programs in Georgia and South Carolina.   Ms. Mitchell also served in a similar leadership role during the opening of a new hospital built by the Dekalb Health System in Atlanta, GA.   She has been certified by the National Association of Medical Staff Services as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist. Shakira and her husband relocated from South Carolina and now reside in Fredericksburg.

Carol Owen comes from Southern Texas to take on the role of Women’s and Children’s Services Senior Leader. “This is a great opportunity to be part of such a dynamic team,” stated Ms. Owen.  Most recently, she was Administrative Director of Nursing overseeing a facility that averaged over 200 deliveries each month.

Liz Smith has taken the position of Emergency Services Senior Leader. A nurse of thirteen years with ten of those in leadership roles, Ms. Smith recently relocated to Virginia from Boston where she had worked her entire career.  There, Ms. Smith was most recently Patient Care Director for St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.  “As Senior Leader for Emergency Services, I look forward to serving our community,” stated Ms. Smith. “We will provide every patient and family member with the highest quality of care possible.”

Lauren Tobias, Patient Access Leader, is the most recent addition to the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center leadership team.  In her role, Ms. Tobias is responsible for patient registrations, admissions and patient account services.  She comes from HCA Richmond Shared Services where she managed the outpatient service coordinator department.  Prior to joining HCA in 2007, Ms. Tobias worked at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

“We have an incredible team coming together,” stated Mr. Tobin. “Each member is working to create an environment of high-quality, compassionate care for our community.  We set our hiring standards very high and look forward to bringing on more team members who will ensure that SRMC meets the standards the public has come to expect from HCA.”
